4. Vice: Project Doom
Released on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Project Doom is a secret agent’s story seeking to investigate and discover an alien substance. Drawing comparisons with Ninja Garden, Project Doom had 11 complete sections in the style of the movie and theater. The story line was ahead of its time, and players were given three different weapon options to choose from. You can go with a 44 Magnum Revolver, a laser whip, or an M-24 stick bomb supply. ‘James Bond’ is very much like that if you ask us. Also, the first-person shooter was a preview of the many shooting games that would come out in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s.
5. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
With 2D still reigning, Ocarina of Time became a spectacular escape focused on fantasy time-travel, countless puzzles and caves. Ocarina of Time has presented a number of game modes that can stand out in 3D adventurous gaming games including: targeted lock systems and sensitive context buttons. When it comes to N64 games, not too many are on the same level as Ocarina of Time.
6. Donkey Kong Arcade Game
Once upon a time, you had to take a trip to the arcade if you wanted to get your hands on certain video games. Donkey Kong was released in 1981 and used as one of the games to break Nintendo into the North American market. The study says Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! Deserves a place on this list. Released in 1987, this game is classed as one of the best boxing games that’s ever been created. 9. Super Metroid
Released on Super Nintendo System (SNES), Super Metroid was a self-paced game featuring Samus Aran. In our belief, Samus can sometimes be underestimated in terms of Nintendo characters. She’s not always gaining fame for her sense of humor while kicking butt, and some have argued that she didn’t really fit in with other Nintendo characters. However, the 16-bit exploration game received praise from critics and fans, and it was an adventure from the beginning to end.
10. Contra
The arcade game Contra was released in 1987 and came to the NES in 1988, and eventually became one of Nintendo’s most famous titles. The leading characters, Bill and Lance, were inspired by the reign of Arnold Schwarzenegger / Sylvester Stallone in the late 80s (they look exactly like them), and the game itself was a ‘run and jump’ shooting game in which to play either single or multiplayer mode. Players were able to choose to play in different formats, Contra is one of those classic games that captures the magic of the era in which it was released, and until then, we have never seen a game like it since.
