It is often possible to identify a well-known voice in the play of the game, but sometimes it can be hard to tell if it’s because of the voice of a famous person your listening to or if your just believing things that are not true after a few hours of Grand Theft Auto. But many of your favourite actors have surprisingly lent their voices to video games; below is a list of a few of them.
1. George Takei
American actor George Takei is not just known for being an activist, but also a former Star Trek star, and king of the Internet. Therefore, the ability to voice the voice of a video game is just right for him. Takei his well-known for his roles in the Star Trek games, which he starred in the original 1966-69 series and the six films, but the fan favorite also saw similarities between his voiceover work and acting projects, especially in Red Alert 3. Takei would than mention that “The echoes of Heroes are here and several echoes of Star Trek are also here [with] time travel,” As for his love of games, a new YouTube channel is owned by Takei, which he said will address the topic of video games.
2. Sean Bean
Although he did not play a role in a Lord of the Rings games, Sean Bean began his career as a voice-over artist for video games around 2006. In Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Bean voices a character name Martin Septim, who is the illegitimate son of Emperor Uriel Septim VII. On his resume, the actor only has one video game but that might change in the future. When he was asked if he would like to work on a sequel to Oblivion, he said: “It was just a great, classy, and successful job, and if a sequel did come around, he would be sure to be ready for it.”
3. Ellen Page
In Beyond Two Souls, movie star Ellen Page plays the lead character Jodie Holmes. Motion capture was used as the game was being created and almost a hundred little beads was required on the character’s face to capture each movement during the scene. The game script was about 2000 pages long and the staff shot 30 to 40 pages almost every day. Page has been doing a variety of things throughout her career, but she has noticed the difference between filmmaking and acting, as she once explained to Hro Complex that “you creates something that can fit into many different directions”.
4. Nolan North
As well as voicing for animated TV shows, Nolan North can be heard voice acting in various video games. Some of his popular roles are voicing Nathan Drake in the Uncharted series, Deadpool in nemerous media, the Prince in the 2008 version of Prince of Persia, David in The Last of Us, Kojo “Romeo” Agu and Sgt. John Forge in Halo 3: ODST and Halo Wars respectively, Dr. Richtofen in Call of Duty: World at War and Call of Duty: Black Ops, a few of the main characters in Portal 2, and Penguin in the Batman: Arkham series.
5. Samuel L. Jackson
Is there anything that Samuel L. Jackson can’t do? Although the actor talks about himself by mentioning these words “not at all” good at gaming, he has fond memories of Pong. He may still be modest, though. The Spike TV Video Game Awards has been hosted by Jackson four times and said he is entertained by first-person shooter games. The first role of Jackson’s video game was Officer Tenpenny in the San Andreas video game, the character who came in at number 87 on IGN Entertainment’s 2010 list of “Top 100 Videogame Villains”.
6. Gary Oldman
With the exception of Harry Potter, Gary Oldman could consider himself a mentor to Frodo. Or maybe a mentor to Elijah Wood who happens to be a character in the Spyro trilogy. The dragon Ignitus character, from all three Spyro games was voice by Oldman. He also featured both Sergeant Viktor Reznov and Daniel Clarke in Call of Duty games Black Ops and World at War, and also mentioned his voice in many other games.
7. Christopher Walken
Walken is one of the most interesting actors on this list. He is known for his random selection of work, from Fatboy Slim music videos to cheesy musicals to the movie The Country Bears, so voiceovers for video games are not easy. But you should definitely be aware that Walken has given his voice to a video game called real crime: Street of LA, the same game that features Hip Hop rapper Snoop Dogg … Voiced the rapper himself.
8. John Goodman
While it’s hard to imagine Goodman portraying any character other than Sulley of Monsters Inc., he also recorded a few video games. He began he’s carrer of video games voiceovers early on with the computer game Pyst around 1996, which mimics the then best-selling PC game, Myst; said “King of the Island of Pyst.” Recently, Goodman voiced the character Dan Hagar in Rage, who was the first character to meet the protagonist.
9. 50 Cent
Rap star 50 Cent doesn’t just do music but also is interesting in the video game world as he has voiceover video games: He participated in the production of two games which also featured himself. While he allows designers to control it, he explains, “I’ve made a few changes depending on the factors that influenced me.” The work of 50 Cent video game makes sense as he is a real gamer, and he doesn’t just enjoy shooting games like the ones he produces.
10. Mark Hamill
Mark Hamill has been apart of many, many video game characters voices – and that’s no surprise, as he had a big career in voice acting. One of his most popular role (of non-Skywalker genres) is Joker, which he has portrayed in various forms of the cartoon series of Batman and video game series for nearly two decades, from 1992 to 2011. His last voice acting as a Joker can be found in the award-winning video game, Batman: Arkham City. He retired from this role on Twitter in the same year that the game was released, but his retirement may not last longer as he has mentioned before that, “it will be hard to let go of the role” .
