What else can you say? As Chris Rock continued his comedy tour after the Oscars, he spoke of his non-commentary on the incident.
“I’m fine, I have an entire show and i’m not speaking on that until I get paid,” the 57-year-old South Carolina native told attendees of his Fantasy Springs comedy show in Palm Springs, California, on Saturday, April. 9, according to the newspaper Desert Sun. “Life is great. I got my hearing back. ”
While on stage at the 94th annual Academy Awards last month, Rock made headlines after commenting on Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head.
Just before awarding the Best Documentary Feature trophy to American musician Questlove, the stand up comedian made a joke stating that Pinkett Smith, 50, could be the main character in a G.I. Jane sequel because of her shaved hair.
(The manager of Red Table Talk has been talking about her struggle with alopecia.) Pinkett Smith cunningly rolled her eyes at Rock’s comment, while her husband, Will Smith, stepped onto the stage and slapped Rock in the face.
“Keep my wife’s name out of your f__king mouth,” shouted by the 53 year old King Richard star, who went on to win the Best Lead Actor, after returning to his seat.
While it was recently confirmed by the Us Weekly that Rock had refused to submit a police report amid the drama, attendees noticed the comedian’s feelings were hidden at the time.
“I asked, ‘Did he really hit you?’ And [Chris] looked at me and said, ‘Yes! I just got a fist from Muhammad ali. ‘ He was instantly in joke mode but many noticed that he was very much still in shock,” as Oscar producer Will Packer explained while attending an interview on Good Morning America earlier this month.
Rock later received a public apology from The Philadelphia native and resigned from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
“I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am ashamed and my actions do not reflect the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in the world of love and kindness, ”wrote by Smith, in part, on Instagram a few days after the awards ceremony. “I would also like to apologize to The Academy, the programme’s co-ordinators, all attendees and everyone watching around the world.”
The Academy has since shut down the Irobot star at future Oscars events for 10 years after a formal review of his conduct. “I welcome and respect the Academy’s decision,” Smith mentioned in a statement to page six on Friday, April 8.
