According to reports from Windows Central, Microsoft is already taking steps to greenlight its next-generation Xbox console, slated for a 2027 release. Alongside this, they are said to be working on a dedicated handheld device, reminiscent of Valve’s Steam Deck or the Asus ROG Ally, expected to hit the market in 2025. This means that the competitive landscape of gaming consoles is evolving rapidly, and it seems that both industry giants are ready to make their plays.

Drawing from historical release patterns, the PS6 and the next Xbox console are likely to launch in the same year. With the PS4 and Xbox One hitting stores in 2013, followed by the PS5 and Xbox Series X in 2020, it stands to reason that Microsoft and Sony aim for a similar synchronized release in 2027.
